Course Description

Level 2 Engineering  HMM 201

Engineering is a practical course that allows students to gain competence in core engineering skills while constructing projects. The skills include the use of hand tools, measuring and marking out, lathe machining, welding, fabrication, reading drawings, and drawing technical drawings. There is written and design work connected to the projects to gain the Achievement Standard and Unit Standard credits.

Course Overview

Term 1
Test plate, vice guards, pattern making.
Main project Gear knob
Achievement Standard related to practical work.

Term 2
Completion of the gear knob and Achievement Standard
Small welding project

Term 3
Engineering vice
Two Unit Standards related to practical work.

Term 4
Completion of vice and Unit Standards.

Recommended Prior Learning

It is recommended that students have completed a practical course in year 11 but not essential, as long as students enjoy practical work and strive to do there best.
