Level 3 Commerce
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr M. Kuperus
Level 3 Commerce
Commerce incorporates aspects of Business Studies and Personal Financial Management. Students can undertake the Young Enterprise programme, and in a group set up and run a small business, aiming to make a profit for the team members. This takes a full year and incorporates marketing and market research as well as meeting a number of benchmarks along the way like presenting to a Dragons Den, selling at market days, and providing evidence of marketing activities. This is a very rewarding programme to be involved in, but does require commitment and enthusiasm to see a project through.
At level 3, there is also a 5-credit Achievement standard on marketing for which students can use their Young Enterprise product as the basis for their research and marketing plan. As an example of developing a marketing plan, we look at AJ Hacket's bungy business and how that has been marketed and promoted. Alternatively students can do a selection of unit standards on a variety of topics - Legal Studies, Buying a House, Risk and Return on Investments, Financial Planning and Goals.
