Course Description
Teacher in Charge:
This course is for learners who require some form of support with their learning either through additional resources, specialized equipment or adapted teaching programmes.
Learners will be able to co-construct their learning pathway with staff and whānau, earning supported learning credits that contribute to an NZQA Record of Achievement and can be credited towards the The New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Living for Supported Learners (Level 1).
Over the course students will learn to:
- Demonstrate self-management of day to day living situations
- Maintain personal safety, health and well-being.
- Participate and interact in everyday situations.
- Participate in planning a future pathway to achieve personal goals.
- Apply problem-solving strategies to resolve day to day issues.
- Apply literacy and numeracy skills required for day to day living
Learners can select from any of the standards offered during the co-construction of their individualized learning pathway and may work towards the 71 credits available over their time within the senior school. Students aim to achieve 10 - 15+ credits per year. Evidence from other course pathways may be used in conjunction with this course towards the achievement of specific supported learning standards.
Please note Learners can not use Supported Learning credits for the New Zealand Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA).
Learners intending to choose this course must seek prior approval from the Head of Learning Support.
Recommended Prior Learning
Learners intending to complete this course would meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Be working at New Zealand Curriculum Levels 1-3 when entering the Senior School
- Have verification in the MOE Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORRS)
- Have accessed MOE In-Class Support (ICS)
- Have an Individual Education Plan
Pathway
This course provides a pathway to The New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Living for Supported Learners (NZQA Level 1) with an optional strand in Skills for Working is a 55-75 credit entry level qualification intended for people who require specialized support with their learning. They are people with learning disabilities, including those with an intellectual disability.
