Level 1 Digital Technology - DTG 101

In the course we will be developing and designing a digital outcomes. Digital Technologies will cover teaching web development techniques and applications, creating and using databases to present data and programming and coding in Python, PHP, JavaScript. There are numerous ethical and legal issues involved when creating a digital products that the students will become aware and knowledgeable about. Introductory computer science concepts, compression and HCI (human computer interface) externals will finish off the courses learning. 

The course is designed to build up the skills needed for a higher level of study that will lead to a career in the IT sector. 

Computer Science and IT trained personnel are in demand, and are usually well paid with great working conditions. 




Course Overview

Term 1
In the first term, we will be concentrating on creating websites. Using HTML/CSS/JavaScript technologies. An assessment will commence in developing/designing and building their own websites.

Term 2
During this term, we will cover working with databases and connecting them to webpages. This will follow on from their knowledge gained in the first term, adding another programming language called PHP and SQL.

Term 3
During term three, students will be learning how to code using the Python programming language. We will also cover the techniques used to connect to databases briefly. Students will also learn the iterative development process and computational skills like decomposition and algorithm development as part of an internal assessment.
Focus is on the fundamentals in programming, including conditionals, iteration, data structures and functions. There will also be a computer science external offered in either compression or HCI (human-computer interface).

Term 4
The last term will be finishing of earlier assessments and completing their projects.

Pathway

This course leads into a large number of University courses and careers. Computer Scientist, Information Technology, Programmer, Software Developer, Software Engineering, Database Administrator etc.
