Level 1 Geography 

Part One: ‘Nature’s Fury’ 

‘Nature’s Fury’ is a course based around extreme natural events. The main topics include tsunamis and earthquakes, focusing on the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010-2011. Students taking this course will develop new skills in GIS (geographic information systems/mapping technology) where they will be able to investigate earthquakes in the Canterbury region. As part of this study, there will be a field trip to Christchurch.

Part Two: '7 Billion and Counting'

In the course ‘7 Billion and Counting,’ students will explore world population. Special attention will be given to studying the countries of India and China, the most populated countries in the world. Students taking this course will use mapping technologies such as ‘Google My Maps’ and ‘Google Earth’ to conduct geographic research, and students will do a special study of tourism issues in New Zealand.
