HIS101

Level 1 History

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms W. Johnston

Level 1 History

This semester begins with a focus on a little known event that occurred during World War One. In 1918 a group of 29 British officers escaped through a tunnel dug under the noses of heavily armed German guards at the Holzminden Prisoner of War Camp, situated south-west of Hanover, Germany. We will examine the outbreak of World War One, aspects of Holzminden prison, how these allied soldiers escaped and the consequences of their escape.   The second half of this semester will focus on an investigation of an historical event of your choice.
