Term 1 - Are you the ultimate team player? Physical Education aids students to discover and develop their own physical abilities, well-being, leadership, acquire knowledge, skills and an understanding of movement through team sport.

Level 1 Physical Education - Sports Science

Term 3 - Sports Science studies how the human body works during exercise, and how sport and physical activity can promote and improve well-being while improving sporting performance. There will be a focus on Societal Influences in Physical Activity, Functional Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics and Motor Skill Learning. 

Note: Each Period or the Duration of the Course has approximately a 34/66% split Theory vs Practical.

A.S 1.1 92016 (Internal) 5 Credits
“Apply Movement Strategies in Applied an Setting”
Applied setting include:
• a tournament
• a modified or competition game
• a festival, event, or outdoor experience.

“Demonstrate Understanding of how Kotahitanga is Promoted in Movement Through Applications of Strategies”

Movement involves working in a group.
Examples of movement include:
• te ao Māori, Pacific, or other cultural activities
• team activities or sports
• outdoor education activities.

“Demonstrate Understanding of Influences on Movement in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific”

Term 3 - Sports Science studies how the human body works during exercise, and how sport and physical activity can promote and improve well-being while improving sporting performance. Influences on movement could come from:
• te ao Māori aspects, including pūrākau, connection to te taiao, tapu, and noa
• biophysical aspects, including functional anatomy, biomechanics, and sports psychology
• sociocultural aspects, including gender, media, whānau, hapū, and iwi.

Movement contexts may include:
• te ao Māori, Pacific, or other cultural activities
• team or individual activities
• outdoor education activities.
