Digital Technologies-Year 9

This Year 9 Digital Technologies course introduces students to foundational skills in computing, problem-solving, and digital literacy, aligning with the New Zealand Curriculum. Students explore the basics of computer science, coding, and digital design, building skills that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Through hands-on activities, students gain an understanding of digital systems, including hardware and software, and how technology can be used responsibly and safely. 

Course Topics Include:

  • Programming Fundamentals: Introduction to coding and logical thinking using beginner-friendly programming languages or platforms.
  • Digital Media and Design: Basics of digital design and multimedia, including creating graphics, editing images, and designing simple web pages or presentations.
  • Data and Information: Understanding data storage, privacy, and how data is used in the digital world.
  • Digital Citizenship and Cyber Safety: Learning about responsible use of technology, online privacy, and staying safe in digital environments.
  • Computational Thinking: Developing problem-solving skills through algorithms and simple coding exercises.

 The course uses real-world applications to make learning engaging and relevant, preparing students for more advanced digital technology skills in future years.
