Level 1 Japanese

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs P. Okerafor.

Learning Japanese gives you a new skill that you can keep for life. In this course you will learn all the basics needed for traveling to Japan, and also enough language to help Japanese exchange students or visitors here at MVHS.

Learn how to describe yourself, your family, and your school. Your daily routine, how you are feeling, and your likes and dislikes. You will be ready to use the transport systems in Japan, go shopping, ask for directions, and order food.

Learning Japanese can help you understand your own culture and language better. It is also a good skill for your future. If you continue learning Japanese, it could be very useful as Japan is still one of New Zealand's major trading partners, remaining in the top 5 export earners.

For example, Japan is New Zealand's fourth-largest trading partner with two-way goods and services trade totaling around $8.8 billion per annum in recent years.  Japan is the fifth largest source of international tourists (over 115,000 in the year to June 2019) and the third largest source of international students for New Zealand.
