Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

Level 2 Science is an Achievement Standard Science course. This course integrates different Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth & Space) to provide an internally assessed course at Level 2. The course is research based and you can work at your own pace and learn about different aspects of Science that interest you.

During the course a range of topics can be covered depending on the interests of the students. Some of the assessments available include:

  •  HPV vaccinations.
  • Crumple zones in cars.
  • Plastic rubbish in the oceans.
  • Emperor penguins in Antarctica.
  • The Chemistry of hair dye.
  • The Chemistry of Plastics
  • Biological Adaptations of Mammals
  • New Zealand Native Species.
  • Mount Ngāuruhoe.

There is also the possibility of looking at some Environment for Sustainability standards for those students who are interested. Depending on student interests we may offer a practical Earth & Space Science investigation and external.

This course can be taken with any of the other Science options at Level 2. Students would be expected to achieve between 16 and 20 credits in this subject.
