JUNIOR ACADEMY SUBJECT SELECTION - 2024

Semester 2 (Term 3 & 4)

Monday 17th June 2024

Kia ora Parents and Students,

Over the next two weeks, current Year 9 and 10 students are to complete their Academy subject selections for the second semester (Term 3 & 4) for 2024. It is an opportunity for students to choose subjects outside of the compulsory core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education. It is important to note, that while core classes are made up solely of a single year levels cohort, for Academies, classes are made up of a combination of both Year 9 and 10 students.

To provide clarity for you, students in junior school complete 2 Semesters of Academies within an academic year, with a Semester running over 2 terms. Students have 3 different lines in their timetable of Academy to choose from. There is a range of 9 Academies to choose from in each line, with each student needing to chose 1 Academy from each line and then an additional 2 back up Academies from each line. These are used if classes meet capacity.

Instructions:

  1. Sign in to SchoolPoint
  2. Click Learning Areas on the left margin
  3. This will bring up a list of all of the Subject Areas - it includes the entirety of the subjects we offer all the way through to Year 13 allowing you to see potential future senior pathways.
  4. Separately, click on each of the Academy 1, 2 and 3. Select 1 main choice from each. This is your top and most preferred Academy.
  5. NOTE: you will need to make your 3 main choices (1 from each Academy line) before being able to select any back up courses.
  6. Next, select an additional 2 Academy subjects from each of the Academy 1, 2 and 3 subject areas.
  7. Complete the subject selection by clicking > View Selected Courses > it should say you have 0 courses and 0 back ups to choose.
  8. Before clicking > Complete My Courses > make sure you scroll down the page to confirm your 3 main Academy selections and your 6 back ups. Remember, you should only choose TWO back ups from each of the Academy subject areas 1, 2 and 3.
  9. Lastly, scroll back to the top and click > Complete My Courses
  10. Selections are due and must be completed by Monday 1st July
