Course Description

Welcome to a journey of identity, history, connection and tūrangawaewae (belonging). We will learn about whakapapa (genealogy), whānau (family), pepeha (historical connections to the land and its people).  We will also learn to speak and communicate in Te Reo Māori through kīwaha (idioms/sayings), kupu o te rā (specific words for the day), whakataukī (proverb/s & quotes), and basic sentence structures to assist with our writing. Intricately interwoven into the Uara ā-Kura (School values) to provide a deeper meaning and understanding of Tikanga and Te Ao Māori. Pōwhiri is an integral part of our kura and this class will teach you about tikanga, kawa, roles, and responsibilities on the marae and as part of our kura and in preparation for a marae visit in the local or wider region.
