Art as Activism

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Miss K. Miller.

Do you have something to say to the world? Art has long been used as a way to communicate, and in Art as Activism, we will learn about protest art, art made to promote social change, and how artists have used their work to communicate ideas and viewpoints. Banksy, Shepard Fairey, The Guerrilla Girls, Frida Kahlo, and Keith Haring have all made art as a form of activism - we will learn about some of these artists, and learn some skills towards making our own Activist Art. This will include some theory, as well as drawing, stencilling, and spray painting work in order to communicate our own ideas and messages through art. If you took this course in 2023, there will be some parts of the course repeated.
