History Level 3
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss H. Shears.
Level 3 History
Our theme for the year will by Uncovering the Truth. We will focus on how Historians have revised interpretations of the past, exposed cover-ups, and shed light on hidden histories.
We begin by re-evaluating the colonisation of Aotearoa New Zealand and taking a field trip to Banks Peninsula. We will investigate the Māori, French, and English settlements of the area and complete research portfolios on an aspect of this topic.
We will then comprehensively investigate events between the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We will consider the causes and consequences of each event and consider different perspectives around whether the use of atomic weapons were necessary to end the war and ultimately, whether their use was justified.
We will finish the year individually investigating and analysing a significant historical event of interest.
Note: Students will complete a selection of assessments up to a total of 20 credits.
