Science Level 1

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: T. Gee.

NCEA Level 1 Science

NCEA Level 1 Science provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles of science, covering key topics in physics, chemistry, and biology. This course is designed to build a strong foundation in scientific concepts and inquiry, preparing students for more specialized studies in Level 2 and beyond.

In Level 1 Science, students will explore a variety of engaging topics, including:

Forces: Understanding the basics of physics, including the concepts of force, motion, and energy. Students will investigate how forces affect the movement of objects and learn to apply these principles to real-world situations.

Chemical Reactions: Delving into the world of chemistry, students will study different types of chemical reactions, the properties of acids and bases, and the conservation of mass. This topic emphasizes the practical applications of chemistry in everyday life.

Genetics: Exploring the fundamentals of genetics, including inheritance, DNA structure, and the principles of heredity. Students will learn how genetic information is passed from one generation to the next and the implications of genetic variation in populations.

Assessment in this course includes a combination of internal and external standards, allowing students to demonstrate their understanding through practical experiments, investigations, and examinations.

Level 1 Science is ideal for students who are curious about how the world works and are considering future studies in any scientific discipline. The skills and knowledge gained in this course will be invaluable for those interested in pursuing careers in science, engineering, medicine, and technology.

Parents and students seeking a well-rounded introduction to science that lays the groundwork for future academic success will find Level 1 Science to be an excellent choice.
