L2BIO

Level 2 Biology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: T. Gee, T. Pretorius, Ms P. van der Pol.

NCEA Level 2 Biology

NCEA Level 2 Biology offers students an in-depth exploration of the living world, building on the foundational knowledge gained at Level 1. This course is ideal for students with a keen interest in biological sciences and those considering careers in health, environmental science, agriculture, or further academic study in the sciences.

In Level 2 Biology, students will delve into key biological concepts, including cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, and ecology. The course encourages critical thinking, analytical skills, and hands-on experimentation, preparing students for more specialized study in Level 3 and beyond.

The course covers a range of topics, such as:

Cell Biology: Understanding the structure and function of cells, including processes such as respiration, photosynthesis, and cell division.

Evolution: Examining the processes that drive the diversity of life, including natural selection and adaptation.

Ecology: Investigating the relationships between organisms and their environments, focusing on ecosystems, population dynamics, and human impact on the environment.

Assessment is a combination of internal and external standards, allowing students to demonstrate their understanding through practical investigations and examinations. Success in this course will provide a strong foundation for Level 3 Biology and related subjects, opening pathways to university study and careers in biological sciences.

Parents and students seeking a comprehensive and challenging science course that supports both academic growth and career aspirations will find Level 2 Biology an excellent choice.
